And we continue with 100 years of birthdates and Hall of Famers … only now, for the most part, we’re talking about the future!
I will add: Today marks exactly seven weeks out from the publication date of WHY WE LOVE BASEBALL. I’m so excited for you to see it, for us to talk about it, this is going to be such a blast. You can preorder the book from our good friends at Rainy Day Books if you want a signed and randomly inscribed copy and a chance at fabulous prizes, (Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million also have signed copies), you can preorder from bookshop.org if you want to support your local bookstore, you can preorder from Amazon if you want to save 10%.
Preorder from ANYWHERE and you will get exclusive director’s cut content delivered to your email — and this may or may not (but probably will) include an essay written by none other than Michael Schur about one of his favorite all-time players and also an essay from me about the second-most remarkable baseball moment of my childhood. All you have to do is put your email and proof of purchase here!
And now, on with the show…
1971 (2): Pedro Martinez, Ivan Rodriguez. Still possible: Billy Wagner.
One thing that’s easy to forget is just how delayed the Hall of Fame is — players like Billy Wagner who were born more than 50 years ago and who retired more than a dozen years ago are still very much active on the ballot.
Wagner’s Hall of Fame story is fascinating to me.
