Let’s do some reader questions—there are a whole bunch lined up, it’s kind of a traffic jam, but if you want to send in your question, you can send it here. I’ll try to get to some more soon, maybe later this week.
From Brilliant Reader Brian: I have often wondered what you considered the best scenes in baseball movies to be. My top 5, in no particular order, would be:
Bar room scene in “Field of Dreams*.”
“My mother wanted me to be a farmer / you’re the best goddamn hitter I ever saw” from “The Natural.
“It’s the hard that makes it great,” from “League of Their Own.”
“I saw him play, he was the best,” scene about Shoeless Joe from “Eight Men Out.”
The Buck Weaver porch scene from “Eight Men Out.”
Excellent choices all.
*I think this is the scene where they go to Chisholm, Minn., and ask around about Moonlight Graham.
