But first, a message from Nick Offerman.
“Swing of a Lifetime”
Today’s roundup will be more than slightly tinged by the fact that I spent all afternoon and evening Wednesday doing a super-fun WHY WE LOVE FOOTBALL event at Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh.* As such, I didn’t watch any of the baseball games live. I listened to a couple on the radio. I followed one on my phone. And the key moment of the Mets-Phillies game happened when I was talking about football’s many miracles and the Butt Fumble and The Play and Cleveland Browns heartbreak and such things.
*A Brilliant Reader—identify yourself for everyone!—brought three packs of football cards to the event and asked me to open them up and talk about the players. This was such a magnificent idea because it both (A) made me intensely happy and (B) made me very angry I didn’t think of it myself. The second card I opened, by the way, was a 1990 Score Bo Jackson.
When we opened things up for questions, a guy wearing an orange Mets shirt raised his hand.
