I know everybody is pointing at the home runs, but Aaron Judge has a chance to do something else that’s very rare, something that Barry Bonds never did, something Mike Trout or Albert Pujols never did, something Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays and Mark McGwire and Stan Musial and Henry Aaron never did, something that has not been done in more than 50 years.
Aaron Judge has a chance to lead the league in all three slash categories (batting average/on-base percentage/slugging percentage) AND home runs. Best I can tell, only 14 other players have ever done it.
And it’s a pretty sweet list. We’ll get to that in a minute.
It has been tough trying to put this incredible Judge season in perspective for two reasons — three reasons, if you want to count all the extras that come with being a Yankee. But let’s stick to the two reasons.
