OK, I want to show you the basic numbers of the four managers who were on the Contemporary Era Baseball Hall of Fame ballot this past week:
Cito Gaston: 894-837 (.516), 2 pennants, 2 World Series.
Davey Johnson: 1,372-1,071 (.562 win pct.), 1 pennant, 1 World Series, two-time manager of the year.
Jim Leyland: 1,768-1,728 (.506 win pct.), 3 pennants, 1 World Series, three-time manager of the year.
Lou Piniella: 1,835-1,713 (.517 win pct), 1 pennant, 1 World Series, three-time manager of the year.
Not a lot to choose from, is there? Sweet Lou has the most wins, Davey has by far the highest win percentage, Cito has the most World Series titles and Jim has the most pennants.
