BR Nathaniel asks: Has there ever been a pitcher who won 200 games without a 20-win season?
First of all, yes, absolutely, there have been 200-game winners who have not won 20. It’s actually not all that uncommon—11 of the 80 200-game winners since the end of Deadball never won 20 in a season. And I’ll add, it’s a pain-in-the-neck thing to look up—I basically had to go through all 80 of the 200-game winners to see if they won 20 at any point in their careers—so I might have missed one or two, who knows?
Before I list them off, here’s a trivia question for you: Name the two 200-game winners who (A) never won 20 games in a season, but (B) Did lead the league in wins at least once.
