WHY WE LOVE FOOTBALL Cover Reveal!
Whoa! Ain’t she a beaut?
OK, so, yeah, one of my New Year’s Resolutions in 2024 is to try and be a bit more measured about promoting my upcoming book. Of course, nobody keeps their New Year’s Resolutions, so take that promise for the little that it’s worth.
WHY WE LOVE FOOTBALL comes out on Sept. 17, and it’s a countdown of the 100 greatest moments in football history. I’m putting the finishing touches on it now, which means that I’m having football dreams every night. I had a dream the other night that I was on YouTube, re-watching the Doug Flutie Hail Mary play for the thousandth time, and I noticed for the first time that Gerard Phelan actually dropped the ball and Miami actually beat Boston College, and I was freaking out because I got it all wrong in the book. I woke up in a cold sweat and it took me way too long to realize that, as Nelly so eloquently said, it was only just a dream.
Sorry, Bernie Kosar.
So, yeah, I just gave away that Hail Flutie is in the book. Well, you surely guessed that. This is a pro football countdown, a college football countdown, a high school football countdown, plus there’s a bunch of other crazy things in there. I really do love it very much. I think if you’re a big football fan, you’ll lose your mind remembering and maybe learning about a few new moments. But, I believe this to be true, I really think that even if you’re not a football fan at all, you’ll get a huge kick out of it.
I mean, hey, an author better think that way.
So, anyway, here’s the cover again. I think it’s great. It’s a slightly darker and more brooding version of the WHY WE LOVE BASEBALL cover, the Christian Bale Batman cover, as compared to the Adam West Batman cover. I think that contrast totally fits the two sports.
It goes without saying that I’d love for you to preorder. But I also know that some of you will want to get a signed and personally inscribed book. The good people at Dutton are putting together the final details on that campaign now; I should be back to you on all that very soon.
OK, back to work. I hope I don’t dream about the Helmet Catch tonight.
