Listen now (48 min) | If you haven’t gotten enough baseball preview stuff here the last couple of weeks, Molly Knight and I talked some baseball, why the Dodgers didn’t bring back Kenley, how much magic the Giants lose without Buster, how much we love the Blue Jays infield and so on.
Speaking of naming things. I think there really needs to be some penalty placed upon the Astros for cheating to win the World Series since major league baseball did nothing. How about we call the new catcher/pitcher microphone system the Astro mic? Just an idea, I’m open to other suggestions, but I really think we need to name this thing in a way that reminds people forever that the Astros cheated to win the World Series.
Come on Joe, sometimes you need to create a little buzz to make something happen.
This seems like the most appropriate post to bring this up since it is the beginning of the season. The Giants/Marlins game went into extra innings today. The runner starting on 2nd base was referred to as a "Ghost Runner." I now see this is what they are calling it across the board. Whether you like the rule or not, you have to wonder if the people making the rule have ever played ball with their friends. This is not a ghost runner. If it was, there would be nobody on 2nd base but everyone would pretend there was. They'd be playing with only 3 batters or less coming to the plate. If you are going to play with this rule, call it something else. Bonus runner is my suggestion.
If they are going to keep putting a runner out there, I'd love to see it where there are no bonus runners in the 10th, then one on first in the 11th, then on second from the 12th onward.

I prefer "Cool Papa Bell" runner, because he ended up on second without anyone seeing how he did it.

It warms my heart when Joe brings up the mariners, he started three whole sentences talking about the mariners! Three!
Thanks Joe, and thanks Molly!
